Parent link at a glance

What is this?

The parent link connects two ordinary memberships: a parent's and a child's. Both have their own account, both are in the member list, both receive notifications. The only new thing is that the parent may respond for the child.

An example: Petra does not sing, but is a member of the children's choir of her children Lina (12, own login) and Jonas (9, no email address of his own). Thanks to the link, Petra confirms the Friday event for both without signing in three times.

What the link allows

• Confirm and decline events for the child, including "Maybe" and a reason for declining
• Vote in notifications: one vote per child, in addition to your own
• See everything the child sees: including events and notifications meant only for the child's voice section, role or permission group, marked "visible because of Lina"

Comments under events and chat messages are always written by parents under their own name. There is no switching to the child.

What it does not allow

• no access to the child's chats, files or sheet music; only your own permissions apply there
• no access to the child's personal data such as address or phone number
• no taking over the child's permissions
• no access to a choir: the link only applies where both are already members. If Lina also sings in a second choir that Petra is not in, nothing happens there.

Not to be confused: Community parental consent is something different. It only controls whether an underage member may use the Community.

How it typically works

1. The choir director invites the parent, separately from the child, like any other member. They tick Exempt from events if the parent does not sing.
2. The choir director creates the child. Children without their own address get a family address right away, and the link is active immediately.
3. Child or parent starts the link, in the profile under Parent link. The other side confirms. Alternatively the choir director links directly from the member list.
4. Day to day, the parent opens the event, taps Confirm and selects the children in the "Who do you want to respond for?" window.

Good to know

• Exempt from events is the recommendation for parents who do not sing. They then appear in no pending list but receive all notifications and see all events.
• Polls: as a member yourself you have your own vote, plus one per linked child.
• Limit: at most 6 children per parent and at most 6 guardians per child.
• Only the parent can remove the link, in their own profile. Neither the child nor the choir director.
• Enabling: The choir leadership enables the parent link in the choir settings. Until then it is not shown when adding members or in the profile. Existing links are kept when it is switched off, but only take effect in choirs where it is enabled.
